The right shed for now and into the future

11 November 2020

When Jenni and David retired, they decided it was time to build their dream shed. They contacted Great Value Garages in Tamworth, which helped Jenni and David get the ideal shed for their unique needs.

Janene Duncan and the team at Great Value Garages Tamworth service customers from Tamworth, Gunnedah, and surrounds to Muswellbrook and Upper Hunter. A family-owned and operated business, Great Value Garages prides itself on going the extra mile for its customers. With more than 28 years’ experience in the shed industry, the team manages shed projects closely from start to finish.

Living on a small acreage estate with stunning views, Jenni and David intend to remain in their home well into retirement. David needed to create a more convenient workspace to accommodate his tools and equipment. Meanwhile, Jenni wanted a home gym and a dedicated space to pursue her art. Before building the shed, the couple’s home felt cluttered and it was difficult for them to access the gear they needed to pursue their hobbies.

Great Value Garages built a fully insulated shed in COLORBOND® Monoclad Cove for the roof, gutters, and barge with Gully walls and doors. The shed measures 10 metres by 12 metres, and is five metres tall, making room for a mezzanine floor with access stairs.

Downstairs, David has a generous workshop space with room for a large trailer, bike, and ride-on mower. Upstairs, there’s room for a gym and Jenni’s fully-equipped art studio.

The shed is built close to the couple’s two-storey home with access to the mezzanine augmented by a walkway from the home’s upstairs verandah. This will make it easier for Jenni and David to access the shed well into the future as they enjoy their retirement.

David said, “The shed is very convenient being right next to the house. We can access it from upstairs or downstairs and there’s plenty of work area. Previously there was a lot of equipment stored on our verandahs and in the garage, so we’d have to move cars to get the tools and equipment out, then put it all back again when it’s finished.

"With the shed, we have easy access to everything we need. And that ease of access means we’ll be able to stay in the house longer as we age.”

During the shed project, the couple was also having retaining walls installed on their steep block, creating a challenge for the Great Value Garages team.

Jenni said, “The team was marvellous in working around all that stuff. They were very friendly and easy to get on with, and we had no hiccups in the project.

"The most challenging part was getting council approval and an engineer’s report to put the walkway between the house and the shed but the team at Great Value Garages managed all of that.”

Janene Duncan, owner/director, Great Value Garages Tamworth, said, “We’ve worked with Fair Dinkum Sheds for 20 years so we know our customers benefit from top quality materials, while we take on all of the project management for our customers.

"This leaves them free to enjoy their shed well into the future.”
