The perfect shed despite an unusual-shaped block

12 November 2020

When Raul Stevens from Townsville in north Queensland wanted to build a new shed, he contacted four shed designers who couldn’t accommodate his block’s unusual shape before finally meeting Zeke Hansen from authorised Fair Dinkum Sheds distributor, Townsville Sheds & Garages.

Zeke and the team at this family-owned business thrive on creating just the right shed for their customers’ needs. The team says there’s no such thing as a standard-size shed, and provides a personalised service for each customer, which can include design, engineering, manufacturing, and construction. Townsville Sheds & Garages has built a reputation as the go-to business for Townsville customers having trouble finding sheds that are the right dimensions for their purpose or site, or who need a heavier-duty shed than off-the-shelf, prefabricated options.

The business is a ShedSafe-accredited manufacturer, ensuring all sheds are designed and engineered in accordance with the Building Code of Australia.

This made Zeke and the team the perfect supplier to help Raul Stevens finally get his perfect shed. Raul and his family have lived on their large block in a residential estate 20 minutes from Townsville for three years. While it is a large block for the area, it has a small street frontage that turns into a wider backyard. Its unusual shape made it difficult to find a shed that would fit.

Raul said, “I went to four other designers who couldn’t accommodate the odd-shaped block. Then, when I spoke with Zeke and the team, they were very flexible in their design approach. I was shown recently completed sheds with unusual shapes and felt Zeke really thought outside the box to work around our space. Zeke had done custom designs for other clients before and was able to create a shed that suited my block and my requirements.”

Townsville Sheds & Garages built a five-sided shed including a garage, three roller doors, COLORBOND® Dune walls and Jasper roof and doors. Raul enjoys using the shed as a workshop, storage space, home gym, and a man cave, with a TV on the wall so he can watch the footy.

Zeke Hansen, manager, Townsville Sheds & Garages, said, “The new shed replaces the one that was on the block when Raul purchased it, which was a single shed with a garaport off the front. We used the existing slab and extended it off the back and to the side. The new, five-sided shed is seven metres wide and four metres high, with the total length on the inside measuring 15 metres and the outside measuring 19 metres.

“Creating custom sheds is our bread and butter at Townsville Sheds & Garages. Raul’s block posed an interesting challenge but certainly not insurmountable, especially with the support of the Fair Dinkum Sheds network. We were very pleased to be able to give Raul his ideal shed despite the unusual shape of the block.”
